Whether it is the beginning of the school year or you are joining Taft mid-year, please complete the following items to make your transition smooth!
During the registration process you will be asked to update your records concerning family, emergency information and permissions/authorizations. The information collected through this online registration process will be used by authorized personnel only.
Step 2: Pay School Fees
Consumable material fees for the 2016-2017 school year are $53.00.
Option A: Pay fees online using SchoolCashOnline with a credit card. This service is free.
Option B: Pay fees in person at Taft. Make checks payable to Taft Middle School, and include your student’s name, grade and ID number in the memo area. Summer office hours are Monday - Thursday, 8am-noon excluding holidays. You may also pay in person during either of the August Open Houses.
The 2016 August Open Houses are both on Thursday, August 18th:
6th Grade Open House is 5:00 - 6:30 pm
7th and 8th Grade Open House is 7:00 - 8:00 pm
Option C: Mail fees to Taft. Our mailing address is 5200 E Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405.
Step 3: Deposit money into your student’s Lunch Account
The Lunch Account is separate from the Consumable Materials Fee.
Option A: Deposit money into your student's Lunch Account with a credit card using the SendMoneyToSchool online service. There is a small fee for this service.
Option B: Lunch money can also be dropped off during the Open Houses. Make checks payable to Taft Middle School, and include your student’s name, grade and ID number in the memo area. Please make sure that the cafeteria check is separate from the school consumable material fee check.
Students whose families meet the income guidelines for free and reduced price lunch, the Family Investment Program (FIP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), transportation assistance under open enrollment, or who are in foster care are eligible to have their student fees waived. This waiver does not carry over from year to year and must be completed annually. The waiver form is available on the E-registration and here on the District Website. Hard copies will also be available at Taft during the Open Houses.
Step 4: Know your child’s Homeroom (HR) teacher
Your student's Homeroom teacher is listed on your child's schedule in PowerSchool. This information is also on the mailing label on the front of the envelope that is sent to families in August. Your student will report to Homeroom on the first day of school to start the day. 7th and 8th grade Homeroom teachers will be in their classrooms. All 6th grade Homeroom teachers will meet their students in the Auditorium.
Step 5: Make sure you have a completed Physical Examination and Concussion Fact Sheet
This is only required for 7th and 8th grade students who plan to participate in athletics. Check out our many options for boys and girls here. Physicals are NOT required for participation in 6th Grade Intramurals.
Hard copies of both forms are available in the Main Office and will also be available during Open Houses or use the links below to print out a copy for yourself.
Physical Form: Physicals are required for participation in athletics in 7th and 8th grade and must be completed before an athlete can begin practice.
Concussion Form: In addition, the Iowa Legislature passed a law that requires all students in grades 7-12 who participate in athletics and their parents, to sign and return to school a Fact Sheet, “Heads Up: Concussion in High School Sports”.
Metro Care Connection will be providing free physicals at Taft for any student who is uninsured, underinsured or has Medicaid. Please call the Metro Care Connection office at 558-2481 to set up an appointment.
Step 6: Acquire the necessary school supplies for your grade

Canvas is our online tool to communicate with families about course work. Each course has its own space in Canvas managed by the teacher. You can expect that assignments, quizzes, and tests are listed there for each of your student's classes. It is an excellent way to stay in touch with your student's course work.
Students have their own Canvas logins they access regularly while at Taft. Students are encouraged to access their Canvas accounts anywhere they have internet access.
Parents have their own logins. As a parent, you can connect to each of your students' accounts if you have more than one child enrolled in a CRCSD school.

The SCHOOL ACTIVITY CALENDAR is a click away at the top of this website under CALENDARS. Our calendar allows you to search and choose the activities that are important to you. You can import them into your own calendars.
Step 9: Complete these forms. All forms can be returned during Open House or the Main Office.
Plagiarism Policy - Everyone must complete and return this form. Parents and each student sign this form every year.
Over the Counter Medication Form - This is not a required form. Please fill out only if you need it.
Medication Administration Permission Form - This is not a required form. Please fill out only if you need it.
Through the secure CRCSD network, each CRCSD student has an Office 365/OneDrive account. As a member of CRCSD, each student has access to 5 desktop and 5 mobile copies of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher (PC only), etc.) to download for FREE.
Please follow these directions to download your FREE copies. This will help your student complete work at home if necessary.
